NAi Digital Annual Report 2010
The NAI is on track in becoming a public-focused, socially oriented organization with a clear vision on the significance of architecture. 2010 was a remarkable year. Demanding but successful.
After extensive preparations, the museum closed in June for a highly desirable renovation of the foyer and the construction of an education pavilion and a treasury exhibition space. The building will be more open and urban and will be able to receive a more diverse range of visitors. Just before the renovation we were confronted by a rising basement floor, due to design and construction errors made when the NAI was built in the early ‘90’s. Therefore we could not begin the renovation as in October. The basement problem will be solved by the time the renovation is completed, in May/June 2011.
Besides this huge project, the NAI achieved a great deal in 2010. During the year the Architecture of Consequence innovation agenda was very well received. We rolled out the Urban Augmented Reality app (UAR), so that anyone with a smartphone can get access to the NAI at all times. In Venice the NAI initiated an internationally much discussed entry about the vacancy of premises in the Netherlands. The NAI also participated in the Rietveld Year. The Central Museum in Utrecht is staging a successful exhibition that is attracting many visitors.
See, hear and read about the past year, and look forward to 2011 and further in the NAi Digital Annual Report 2010
