The first lecture in the series Craft@NAI in which architects throw light on the process from design to implementation on the basis of built projects. The first lecture will be given by Roman Delugan from the Viennese firm Delugan-Meissl on craftsmanship and design in his most recent building projects.
Other speakers expected in this series: Kees Kaan, Koen van Velsen and Juan Navarro Baldeweg.

In his keynote on 8 October, the urbanist Lars Lerup (US) presented his vision of the Open City in relation to the suburb, which is where he locates the future challenges for architects and urban designers. In his vision, the suburb is the new open metropolis and not, as many see it, a place dominated by uniformity and mediocrity. Lerup’s lecture introduced a number of utopian ideas connected with the promotion of social cohesion, mobility and sustainability in the metropolitan suburbs.

On Thursday 10 December, geographer Erik Swyngedouw gave a keynote lecture entitled ‘The Paradox of the Post-Political City: The Violence of Consensus'. The evening was part of the Open City Event Program of the 4th IABR, and kicked off with an introduction by Miguel Robles-Durán to the theme Segregation. The evening was concluded with a public debate chaired by architecture critic and moderator JaapJan Berg.
