The NAI was responsible for the Dutch entry at the 9th International Architecture Biennale of Sao Paolo. The exhibition ‘Unsolicited Architecture’ featured nine projects by architects who enter into urgent social challenges. They seize opportunities where the established building practice doesn't. Almost all of the presented projects are established in cooperation between Dutch and international architects. The Dutch entry for the Shenzhen architecture biennial in 2011 is the exhibition 'Housing with a Mission'. The exhibition displays design solutions for affordable housing that were developed as part of a joint Dutch-Chinese project. The collaboration is interesting for both parties: The Netherlands have the opportunity to share their expertise in housing and China offers challenging work for architects.
