Interview Bjarke Ingels NAi 2012 from Tomaat web-tv on Vimeo.
"Architecture isn’t just a question of making pretty facades or expressive sculptures, it is really a question on how we want to live our lives." Bjarke Ingels.
Prior to his lecture on March 22, 2012 in Rotterdam Bjarke Ingels answered a few questions about his design approach, inspirations and motivations. He talked about his study, the influence of Rem Koolhaas on his work and on the role of architects and architecture in the future.

I have great admiration for the work of BIG.On the other hand, the deisgn of this catalogue is tacky. I love and collect comics but I wouldn't buy this one. It overpowers the quality of their architecture. And, the whole archi-comic thing is so dated and has been done so much better decades ago. I'm surprised they would ape its style. This is the architectural equivalent of grey skinny jeans, oversized plastic frame sunglasses and an ironic moustache.
As an American, my first thought was That's a liwuast waiting to happen. The fact that I thought that is mildly depressing. I'm not a supporter of creating dangerous architecture for the sake of awesomeness, but I appreciate a design that can emerge without such a timid deference to planning bureaucrats that would constantly try to find risks in designs like these without showing much interest in grasping the bigger idea of architecture's social purpose. This design, whether you like it or not, is purely made with the focus of creating a fun and exciting space that people can enjoy. I normally dislike most of the that BIG designs because of I think they often have a tone-deafness towards context in their brutally large scale , but this project is more about the grandiosity of architecture's potential to create excitement and pride.

Hello there,I saw this project and then I thuhogt about that famous Orwell's novel 1984 We want so much to become an utopia where humans and not humains are able to share/ live in this planet in harmony . To evolve in such a way where everything we do is designed and errorless.I admire Big's projects for that: they are possitive, green and intelligent. But, i am afraid that this project looks more to a dystopia to me: The danger of a society totally transparent can only lead to totalitarism. In this case the energy aspect is amplified in such a way and represented by a huge sort of machine (a leviathan?)How to conceive mouvement and change under this kind of structure?I think that all political way needs some no-public domain in order to ensure inhabitants' freedom. Totally agree with the last paragraph of your analysis. thank you. http://beykqgln.com yutcjm [link=http://nhduwtmvmf.com]nhduwtmvmf[/link]
