The Netherlands Architecture Institute opened its doors at the
Museumpark in
Rotterdam in 1993, now almost twenty years ago. Since then, hundreds
of
thousands of visitors have crossed the bridge into the striking
building designed by the acclaimed architect Jo Coenen. That experience
has now become a thing of the past: the NAI building is under
construction.
The NAI entrance will be given a complete overhaul in the course of 2010. In the near future, visitors will enter the NAI via a deck at street level - the NAI threshold will literally become low. Moreover, the NAI will offer a deluxe bookshop, a pleasant café-restaurant, and far more space for the educational programmes after the renovation. The NAI will close at 17:00 hrs on Sunday May 16 and will festively reopen with brand new exhibitions on December 10 2010. The library, book shop and Sonneveld House will remain open during the renovation and platform activities will contine, be it in locations outside the NAI.
