On 16, 21 and 27 October the ministers Ronald Plasterk (Education, Culture and Science, OCW), Ella Vogelaar (Housing, Communities and Integration, WWI) and Jacqueline Cramer (Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, VROM) will present spearheads from the latest architecture vision. These spearheads will be scrutinised in the light of the key question: Just how ambitious is the new architecture vision, and how will the professionals interpret and implement it?

Out of the 76 submissions, the jury of the AM NAI Prize 2008 has nominated the following for the best building by a young architect: Witbrant West in Tilburg by JMW, Pavilion Strand aan de Maas in Rotterdam by Monadnock, Villa Overgooi in Almere by Next Architects, and Villa 1 in the Veluwe by Powerhouse Company.

During the ‘11th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia’, the Netherlands will present a range of proposals and opportunities for architecture and their implications for architectural courses. The Dutch submission to the Architecture Biennale of Venice (Italy), entitled ‘ArchiPhoenix – Faculties for architecture’, is organised by the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI). ‘ArchiPhoenix’ can be seen from Sunday 14 September to Sunday 23 November 2008 in Venice.

Sigmund Freud regarded the dream as the guardian of sleep. The exhibition ‘State Alpha, on the architecture of sleep’ examines to what extent the same is true of architecture. Opening on Sunday 29 June, the NAI Maastricht is presenting an exhibition that offers an encyclopaedic approach to the architecture of sleep from many angles. The exhibition aims to stimulate visitors to reflect on how architecture organises our sleep.

On Saturday June 28 the new NAI exhibition ‘My Public Space’ will open in the center of Rotterdam – an exhibition about public space in eight European cities, in eight kiosks. A photographic survey of two thousand years of public space is on show in the NAI building. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Eendrachtsplein at 18.00 hrs. on Saturday afternoon.

The Netherlands Architecture Institute lets its imagination run riot as it speculates the whole summer long on sport and space, water and energy, landscape and infrastructure in an exhibition on the future of the Netherlands: ‘NL28 Olympic fire’. The Secretary of State for Health, Welfare and Sport, Jet Bussemaker, will perform the kick-off opening of this Olympic exhibition at 15:30 hrs on Saturday 31 May. The gymnastic talents Herre Zonderland and Arjan Butter will give a demonstration in the gallery during the afternoon. ‘NL28 Olympic fire’ will be on display in the NAI until 21 September.
